Refinishing starts below the color
The most important work happens before the finish coat. Existing cabinetry may carry grease, wax, silicone polish, smoke residue or incompatible coatings. We clean and evaluate the surface first, because sanding contaminants into the substrate can create adhesion problems instead of solving them.
Preparation matched to the cabinet
Doors and drawer fronts are labeled and removed. Clean surfaces are scuff-sanded to remove gloss and establish a uniform profile, with dust extraction and final dust removal before coating. Damage and open joints are reviewed, and exposed or difficult substrates receive the compatible primer or sealer selected for the system.
Primer is allowed to dry under suitable conditions and is refined between coats. On open-grain woods such as oak, grain filling can be discussed when a flatter appearance is desired; natural grain may otherwise remain visible beneath a painted finish.
Controlled 2K coating application
The waterborne coating is combined with its specified catalyst using the manufacturer's current mix ratio. The material is mixed under controlled conditions, applied within its usable pot life and sprayed at the recommended film build. Temperature, humidity, ventilation and recoat windows are monitored because they affect leveling, drying and cure.
A professional sequence includes:
- Inspection and test areas when compatibility is uncertain.
- Cleaning followed by complete residue removal and drying.
- Uniform scuff-sanding without damaging profiles and edges.
- Dust extraction, masking and contained spray preparation.
- Compatible primer or sealer and sanding between stages.
- Measured catalyst, controlled spray passes and cure time.
- Careful reassembly, alignment and final inspection.
Refinishing, painting or replacement?
Painting describes the visible color change; refinishing describes the broader preparation and coating process used to renew the surface. Replacement is generally reserved for major structural damage, layout changes or cabinets that cannot provide a reliable substrate.
